Daddy Yankee – El Cartel: The Big Boss

July 11, 2007

El Cartel: The Big Boss is the follow up album to Daddy Yankee’s hit album Barrio Fino, released on June 5, 2007. The first single from the album, titled “Impacto”, along with its remix which features Black Eyed Peas star ‘Fergie’, were released on April 12, 2007 both tracks being produced by Scott Storch. Guests on the album include Akon, Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, Hector El Father, will.i.am and Fergie. According to Daddy Yankee the album will reveal the reason for his feud with fellow reggaeton artist Don Omar.

The album debuted at number nine on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, selling 82,000 copies in its first week, which, though still a good number, was less than half what was expected. The album is one of only a few Latin albums to debut in the Billboard 200 Top Ten.

S Club 7 – 7

July 10, 2007

“7″ is the second album by British pop group S Club 7. It was released by Polydor Records on June 12, 2000 worldwide. The album was primarily produced by Cathy Dennis and Simon Ellis. It received a mixed reception from music critics, but despite critical commentary, it became one the groups’ most successful album release, and reached number one in the United Kingdom, where it was certified triple platinum. 7 was released in North America on November 14, 2000 following the modest success of their debut release. The album peaked at number sixty-nine on the Billboard albums chart and was certified gold. With the release of S Club’s 2000 Children in Need single “Never Had a Dream Come True”, the album was re-released on December 4, 2000 with two extra tracks (“Never Had a Dream Come True” and a previously unreleased Stevie Wonder cover of “Lately”). The only other part of the album that was changed was the overall theme. The overall blue feel that the first album possessed was changed to a mixture of purples. The rest of the album, including the “Thank You’s”, remained unchanged.

Melanie C – Carolyna [UK CD Maxi]

July 6, 2007

“Carolyna” is a song by Melanie C, and is the third single from her fourth studio LP, This Time (2007). Written by Chisolm herself, Steve Mac and Paul Gendler — her long-time guitarist since 1997 and the very first Spice Girls shows — it is one of the album’s up-tempo tracks. Produced by Steve Mac, “Carolyna” is a song about girl who has had a rough start in life and needs to escape to find freedom and happiness.

The single peaked at number forty-nine in the UK Singles Chart, becoming Chisolm’s lowest position on that chart. It was more successeful in Germany where it reached the Radio Airplay Chart’s Top5 and in Italy where it was a Top20 hit.
