Asia Nitollano

July 13, 2007

If Asia is part of the PCD’s then why don’t they add her to PCD web page? It isn’t that difficult to upload even the simplest of photos. With all the energy that went in to making the show they can’t find two minutes to update the site? Why are they not publically acknowledging Asia as a PCD.

Carrie Underwood – Jesus, Take The Wheel

July 10, 2007

“Jesus, Take the Wheel” is a Grammy Award-winning song written by Brett James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson. It is the first single from Carrie Underwood’s debut album, Some Hearts. The song was nominated for Song of the Year, and won Best Female Country Vocal Performance as well as Best Country Song at the Grammy Awards.

“Jesus, Take the Wheel” was certified Platinum by the RIAA in April 2006.

The song was at #39 on the Billboard US country charts in its very first week, marking the first time in that chart’s history that a singer’s debut single was already Top 40 in its first week.

The song spent six weeks as number 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart, tying Faith Hill’s Breathe as a runner-up for longest-running number-one by a solo female artist, a record held by Connie Smith. Smith’s “Once a Day” had an eight-week run at number one in 1964-65.

It proved to be a crossover hit, eventually making it to number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and selling around 914,153 digital downloads.

During the fifth season of American Idol Carrie Underwood went back to the show to perform the song.

Proving the song’s success, at the 41st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, “Jesus, Take the Wheel” was named Single of the Year.

On December 11, 2006, Oprah Winfrey held an “iTunes” concert featuring Carrie Underwood, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, and Tony Bennet. Carrie performed “Jesus, Take the Wheel” there.

On April 17, 2007, American Idol season 6 contestant LaKisha Jones performed this song during the “Country” theme week, but received poor reviews from the judges. This marked the second time an American Idol winner’s song was covered on the show with the first being Lisa Tucker on season 5 covering Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You.”

Ronan Keating – She Believes (In Me)

July 10, 2007

“She Believes In Me” is a country pop song, recorded by American star singer Kenny Rogers on his very popular 1978 album The Gambler. The song was written by Steve Gibb (but not Steve Gibb,) and is the tale of a songwriter who has a beloved too good for him.

The song was a childhood favourite of Irish singer Ronan Keating, and he recorded it in 2004 as part of his Turn It On album. Rewriting the lyric a bit (hence getting some of the publishing royalties) and rearranging the title textually to “She Believes (In Me)”, Keating reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart with his treatment. It was at most a modest hit elsewhere in Europe, placing in the Top 30 in three countries there.

S Club 7 – 7

July 10, 2007

“7″ is the second album by British pop group S Club 7. It was released by Polydor Records on June 12, 2000 worldwide. The album was primarily produced by Cathy Dennis and Simon Ellis. It received a mixed reception from music critics, but despite critical commentary, it became one the groups’ most successful album release, and reached number one in the United Kingdom, where it was certified triple platinum. 7 was released in North America on November 14, 2000 following the modest success of their debut release. The album peaked at number sixty-nine on the Billboard albums chart and was certified gold. With the release of S Club’s 2000 Children in Need single “Never Had a Dream Come True”, the album was re-released on December 4, 2000 with two extra tracks (“Never Had a Dream Come True” and a previously unreleased Stevie Wonder cover of “Lately”). The only other part of the album that was changed was the overall theme. The overall blue feel that the first album possessed was changed to a mixture of purples. The rest of the album, including the “Thank You’s”, remained unchanged.
